WHO WE ARE

Greetings, our Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

We proudly minister to and represent the Southern Baptist Conference of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in South Carolina.  We are affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention and are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, recognized by IRS and incorporated in the state of South Carolina.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing people are a unique, vibrant, and active group with their own language and culture.  They reside here in the state with their own activities, organizations, and daily lives/jobs.  They live in the same way as other hearing people in the majority world.  But there is one factor that affects this community in all facets of life: communicating with those who can hear.  Cultural Deaf people typically communicate receive information and express themselves most effectively in American Sign Language (ASL).

Well, in the state of S.C. there is a huge need for ministry, Pastors of the Deaf, Interpreters who are fluent in ASL and churches where God's word is shared in ASL during a Sunday School/Bible study/Worship time.  At this time, there are about 15 missions/ministries that conduct services in this manner.

There are a number of Interpreting ministries in the state, but most interpreters work voluntarily, are understaffed and undertrained to do the job they feel God calling them to do.  Also, most parents, who have Deaf children or youth, do not know ASL and have limited communication with their child.  All of these previously mentioned facts are HUGE barriers to spreading God's word and showing His Love to Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

By mentioning all of this information, we hope you can start to get a picture of how important an initiative it would be to continue training and equipping the willing Deaf servants to go out into the mission field to spread the Good News to every Deaf and Hard of Hearing person.  The need is great and the workers are few but the workers are motivated!  Being in the state of South Carolina for more than 50 years, we have seen the lack of a strong Bible teaching foundation for Deaf people at any age.  We hope this conference will become a yearly event so we can instill the love of Christ in their heart and they can learn to be a light to their community!  In the future, we look forward to seeing the fruits of this labor.  Our hope is that you will prayerfully consider this venture to invest in.  We thank you for your time and all that you do for South Carolina and our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is our goal is to encourage Deaf Christians to fellowship together.  Our goal is inspired by these verses in

Hebrew 10:24-25

"We should think about each other and see how we can help each other to show love and do good things.  We should not quit meeting together.  That's what some people are doing.  But we should meet together and strengthen each other.  You should do this more and more as you see the Day coming."

In Christ's Name we serve,
